A lost pet is often scared, even if they're usually friendly. Move slowly, speak gently, and don't corner them. Try using food to lure them close enough that you can check for a tag.
Look for a collar with a tag, and scan any QR code you see — it may take you straight to the owner. A vet office or shelter can also scan for a microchip for free.
Offer water, find a quiet space away from traffic and noise, and contain or leash them gently if you can do so safely. A calm pet is easier to reunite.
